Jim's feedback:
"This is an interesting essay. Since Irving Penn is deceased, you should refer to him in the past tense. You state in your conclusion that he is alive and in his eighties, which makes no sense because he was born in 1917. Your first sentence includes one of several comma splices, i.e., the use of a comma to separate what should be two sentences. Dates should be followed by a comma. You neglect to include a period after a sentence, and you use a postal code to abbreviate a state. Titles of magazines and artwork should be italicized. “Mediocre” is an adjective, so a person is not “a mediocre.” It is good practice to avoid contractions in formal writing. The phrase “the local photographer” implies there was just one. Toward the end of page 3, see the difference it makes to place a comma after “behind.” Your conclusion says his “works is often familiar,” where the verb and subject are mismatched."
