Andrew Jackson was born in a backwoods settlement in the Carolinas in 1767 He lead a well lived life and died at the age of 78 in 1845 Although he had no formal education in his late teens he read law for about two years and he became an outstanding young lawyer in Tennessee which lead him to become the first man elected from Tennessee to the House of Representatives1 Jackson also served briefly in the Senate and was honored with being a major general in the War of 1812 where he became a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans2 Although he did acomplish alot of very well reconized things in his life he was best know and remembered for being the seventh president of the United States of America from 1829-18373 This election on the seventh persident during 1829 was considered to be the first modern election of our time It was the first election where the personalities took center stage for each of the candidate and their issues During this election Andrew Jackson was running against a man named John Adams and it was apprent that these men were not very found of each other Shortly befor the election was over the news papers printed a artical which had Jackson saying Adams is not a man of democracy and in that same paper they quoted Adams with Jackson is a drunkard who lived with his wife two years before he marring her Despite all that was said during this time period Jackson was a great public speaker and captured the popular vote4 Between the popularity and strategically campaigning in high electorial voting states Jackson won the election Andrew Jackson was considered one of the first presidents of the people because he supported the common man and nationalism5 Jackson also promised to improve expansion westward thus leading to the encounters with the natives After 1825 the federal government tried
