Martin Luther King Jr Martin Luther King Jr was a great man in our countrys history He fought to get equal rights for the black community King used a non-violent way of fighting He conducted many sit-ins and had many rallies at which he spoke King is mostly remembered for one speech he gave entitled I HAVE A DREAM He delivered this speech on August 28 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to a crowd of about 250 000 people after meeting with President John F Kennedy King begins this speech by saying Five score years ago which is the way that Abraham Lincoln opened his Gettysburg Address He does this because he his standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial delivering this speech In whose symbolic shadow we stand today King says He thinks back as to when Lincoln was fighting to free the slaves but he states the Negro is still not free King describes the black community as sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and also chains of discrimination By saying this he puts the image of the slaves in chains having to do things against their will Later on in the speech he addresses the Lincoln Memorial once again King repeats the words Now is the time many times in close proximity of each other stressing the urgency of what he is telling them He also does this with the phrases Go backI have a dreamtogetherthis will be the dayLet freedom ring In his speech King says things that are very easy for people listening to his speech to picture in their minds He speaks of mighty mountainsheightening Allegheniessnow-capped Rockies King also gives exact locations in America such as Stone Mountain of GeorgiaLookout Mountain of Tennessee In paragraph 10 King tells the people to go back to many different states that are hit the hardest during
