Its the Fourth of July and our shirts feel as if they are super glued to our backs We ride our bikes through the woods in Watercolor just Megan and I and head for the lake The speakers in my bike basket are vibrating as the playlist of mash-ups that our friend made blares out and Megan is singing every song at the top of her lungs like always We know there must be someone that can see us but we dont care so continue to make fools of ourselves Technically we are fourteen but together we might as well be five Megan is always doing stupid things and she is so persuasive that I just cant say no She has talked me into going bridge jumping into a lake that has alligators and some even say sharks I stand on my bike seat and when I look at her I laugh so hard that I ride right into a tree We emerge out of the woods and ride down Buttercup Way until it appears to be a dead end Once you think youre stuck you ride behind the bench down a narrow little path out onto the little dock Its our place to go sit think and get away from our families Its not really our dock its for everyone but our initials carved into the weathered wood on the left side suggest differently We sit here for about an hour with our red kool-aid pounds of candy from the parade and the speakers sitting next to us playing our summer theme songs on repeat Megan starts dancing and I do too We forget about everything around us getting so caught up in our dancing and in the music that we dont hear our phones vibrate After we stop dancing we sit at the very edge of the dock to wear our toes skim the top of the water We stay there for a
