The book I read for my Term 4 choice read was Lord of the Flies by William Golding It was a really great book that I wanted to learn more about by researching another persons take on the story The article that I read was The Littluns this article was fascinating because in the story the Littluns play a very minor role However the approach the author took to this article explains theyre role very well The Littluns represent our society they cant comprehend very much and are easily frightened and will always seem to flock to whomever it seems best fit to lead One example of how the Littluns represent our society is their fear of the Beast They are the first to see the Beast and are constantly in fear of it This can relate to a real life issue in a sense that the Beast could be a political problem economic troubles or war issues The article says this Most of them end up joining Jack not because they can differentiate between right and wrong but because Jack provides them meat and protection from the Beast Lord of the Flies Study Guide The Littluns feel safe and secure around Jack even when the decisions hes making are wrong and unethical This can be traced back to our own society many people make decisions not because they know who theyre voting for to lead them but instead because they liked what the person promised and what they say theyll do The Littluns following Jack are a great example of thatI think this is a very valid literary criticism because it explains the true meaning of the Littluns which can help expand everyones knowledge of such a minor role in the story This literary criticism definitely helped further my understanding of the book When I was reading it I was constantly having thoughts wondering why this book was on the English book list but
