Between Black and White Lies Gray She is blackening my name in the village She is telling lies about me She is a cold sniveling woman and you bend to her says Abigail Williams a 17-year-old whore who wanted John Proctor for herself Spoke or silent a promise is surely made And she may dote on it now - I am sure she does - and thinks to kill me then to take my place Elizabeth Proctor once said she was the wife of John Proctor and threw Abigail Williams out onto the high road They both are very different but have some of the same characteristics Abigail Williams was the niece of Rev Samuel Parris She was very beautiful yet dangerous 17 year old Abigail Williams is quite notably a selfish citizen of Salem She was the leader of a group of girls in falsely accusing many innocent people of witchcraft Not only does she steal thirty-one pounds from her own uncles strongbox but she quite often blames others to save herself At the beginning of the play she is accused of witchcraft but promptly tosses the accusation onto defenseless Tituba She made me do it Abigail was also still in love with John and she thought that if she kills Elizabeth she would be able to run off with him Elizabeth Proctor wife of John Proctor Together they had three children Elizabeth was despised by Abigail Williams since Elizabeth fired her seeing as Abigail was having an affair with John Proctor Also Elizabeth had a very good reputation for not lying except the one time in court when she should have told the truth Elizabeth could be supremely virtuous but often cold Elizabeth Proctor didnt suffer as harsh a fate as her husband did Before she was sentenced to be hanged she petitioned the court saying that she was pregnant The Puritans didnt believe in killing an innocent unborn baby so
