A takeover of a particular region was a very common act during the early years of man kind The definition of a takeover is presented as the ability of assuming control of someone or something as in a nation or a region oxford dictionariescom The culture that parallels to this definition is the Vikings The Vikings were described as seafaring Scandinavian people who invaded and took over the coasts of Northern and Western Europe from the eighth through the tenth century One of the most well known evasions was against the British regions During this evasion the Vikings were able to take over Britain and alter many of their customs and rituals that they have prescribed in their community Thus what this work will display is that through the aspects of takeover battles and settlement change the Vikings have altered the British community forever And it can be presented that through all there invasions against the British regions it amounted to an elite takeover There is a lot of history that derives from the history of the Vikings They were described as traders explorers and warriors In addition some Vikings were termed with alternative names by others The Pagan Vikings for example are frequently referred to as barbarians By contrast the various authors of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle English in the twelfth century imperialism national identity and political values Beginnings of English Imperialism Gillingham J pg 10 describes the Vikings as not just savages but as strategist This was mainly due to the fact that the raids also facilitated many alterations throughout the lands from economics to warfare The Vikings raided traded explored and settled in wide areas of Europe Asia and the North Atlantic islands from the late eighth to the mid eleventh centuries pg 30 text book The Vikings utilized wooden long ships that were able to navigate through the rough seas or in shallow waters
