Peer pressure can often influence someone to do something that does not please them These influences can cause a good or bad effect on someones attitude The short story On the Bridge by Todd Strasser is about Seth a typical teenager who wants to fit in and does this by becoming friends with Adam However in the end Seth realizes that Adam is not a true friend Peer pressure made Seth doubt his true self by becoming easily influenced by Adam Seth realizes that he wants to be himself Seth becomes close friends with Adam because he assumes that Adam is a trustworthy friend Seth is a normal teenager who attempts to become more noticed First he starts changing his identity by acting like someone else he would often follow Adams actions Adam had sometimes instructed Seth on how to feed quarters into the cigarette machine and get a pack of Marlboros 1 Strasser Although Seth followed Adam Adam used this opportunity to his advantage by misleading Seth into buying a pack of cigarettes even though he knew the possible consequences Furthermore while Adam is smoking Seth decides it would be a good opportunity to fit in In fact Seth too was smoking a cigarette It was his first ever 1 Strasser It is clear that Seth will go through any problem in order for him to change his lifestyle He believes that by copying Adams actions everyone will notice him In this method he reveals that he wore the similar leather jacket as Adam owned It clearly states It wasnt supposed to look new because hed ripped the sleeves off and had washed it in the washing machine a hundred times to make it look old and worn 1 Strasser It is evident that Seth wants to become noticed he does this by wearing the same clothes as Adam Adam would often wear his
