Many people live their lives in excess but in the Odyssey Odysseus and his crew show the consequences of that lifestyle One obvious example takes place on Helioss island where the crew survive off the food supply of their ship or else face the consequences The men had to show restraint not to eat the sacred cattle belonging to the god Helios Everybody except Odysseus eventually succumbed to eating the cattle due to being desperately hungry In exchange for that short term benefit everybody forfeits a safe return home with no suitors in Odysseuss house An organized binder relates to Odysseus and his crew because it is an example of managing clutter in lifeAn organized binder fits the meaning of nothing in excess because if a binder contains extra papers no longer needed or not needed in a short time frame that classifies as excess I show a form of restraint by not piling papers inside my backpack thus not resulting in a disorganized mess of papers The long term consequence of piling papers in a backpack for later is that when I need the papers for later it takes progressively longer to find them Just as Odysseus and his crew grew increasingly desperate to eat the cattle for their starvation problem it has become harder for me not to become disorganized to save time getting to classMy binder has fulfilled the analogy of living with nothing in excess in my life The excess papers in my binder were negatively impacting the efficiency of finding papers for my classes While disorganization offers a quick way to put papers away the resulting consequences are inefficiency and unneeded clutter Odysseus and his crew learned the moral of living with nothing in excess and discovered that while it is hard the long term consequences outweighed the short term benefit of fulfilling their hunger In modern day life
