Organizational culture is the set of values norms guiding beliefs and understandings that are shared by members of an organization and that guide expected behavior Daft 2010 p 374 Child Protective Services CPS is a culture all on its own although they are a government-funded agency there are many formal structures that are executed by informal procedures In government agencies things go in a hierarchy Wake Countys formal structure is one of the few counties that do blended teams This means that all units are suppose to come together and staff cases with difficulties or discuss cases that are going to be transferred However at our facility it does not exactly work like that The informal structure at CPS varies from the formal structures slightly For example Linda and Toni the supervisors have the final say in any case decision they are also the only two units at the building in Zebulon The other supervisors are spread out across the region Both supervisors call on the help of two or three individuals to help with making those decisions out of comfort that what is being done is best for the child This is why there is a strong bond between Kathy Kim and Mary-Catherine MC with Linda as well as a strong bond with Tiffany Vanessa and Gloria for Toni Informally the two units actually function as two separate units Toni and Linda have a strong bond however the workers do not have as much of a strong bond with workers in the other unit They do however have a strong bond with workers in their unit The chart shows that the workers communicate amongst themselves quite often before meeting with a supervisor Usually it is to get a different perspective in general or to make sure that they have not missed anything in some cases it is also a way to see who would be best for the client if the case needed
