Sometime in early January our junior class was called to the auditorium for a special presentation I shrugged at this announcement assuming that it would be about the usual topics bullying or drug abuse To my surprise a podiatristmotivational speaker walked onto our stage that day Dr Sherunda Smith Josey snatched my attention with her topic the principles of success I pulled out a pencil and paper while my fellow classmates were resting their heads against each other falling asleep I learned that Dr Smith Josey is native to Jamaica but relocated to America to follow her dreams of becoming a podiatrist Here in America Dr Smith Joseys social transition was not a smooth one She had a hard time adjusting to the cultures and trends here in America She told us of her most embarrassing moments and the days that other Americans teased her for being different But her differences were what made her stand out and her ability to face challenges and struggles made her successful Dr Sherunda Smith Josey realized after reaching success that she was not the only person that would encounter obstacles She explained that there are 300000000 Americans destined to succeed but half of us do not know it Dr Smith Josey made it her personal mission to make sure that we understood that success isnt about luck it isnt about the hardships you face its about your belief in yourself your personal effort and your perseverance Dr Smith Joseys brief presentation changed my impacted my life the greatest She explained to us the basic principles of success One principle that especially vaulted my ambitions was faith Without faith how can I believe in myself and reach the goals Ive set Dr Smith Josey used a quote by Thomas Edison He once said Ive never failed once I invented the light bulb it just happened to be a 2000 step process Hearing this quote by one of the
