A man named Jim has found himself in the wrong place in a small South American town There have been protests of the government from the Indians and in punishment and as a message to others they will be shot to death Jim faces a heavy man named Pedro who is the captain in charge of this unfortunate situation Pedro learns that Jim has gotten here by accident and decides to make him an offer of two options because he is a special guest Jim can choose to kill one Indian himself and save the other nineteen Indians or refuse to shoot one Indian and watch all twenty Indians die at the hands of Pedro and his comrades The Indians and other villagers understand the offer that has been given to Jim and are begging him to accept Jim is faced with a dilemma There are different advantages and disadvantages to each of Jims options The first option Jim has is to shoot one Indian himself If he does this Jim will save the nineteen others that were staring into the barrel of the gun In this decision Jim would be a considered a hero to those Indians he saved and to the other villagers watching They would praise him and Jim would have the gratitude of saving the lives of nineteen people This decision would save many people but could also affect Jim in an adverse way Jim might ignore the fact that he saved the nineteen people and instead feel guilty because he had killed an innocent man He may be traumatized by this fact and have a trouble living out his life happily Jim also has a second option which is refusing to kill one Indian himself and letting all twenty of the Indians die at the hands of Pedro With this option there would be different advantages and disadvantages One advantage might be that Jim would not have the guilt of
