President Dwight D Eisenhower was the Supreme Allied Commander during the 4 most formative years in American history He lead the troops onto the beaches of Normandy and through the Battle of the Bulge successfully He was also a man that was morally opposed to war Eisenhower believed that war was never justified and war was the result of mans inability to civilly work out their differences President Eisenhower said Possibly my hatred of war blinds me so that I cannot comprehend the arguments that its advocates adduce But in my opinion there is no such thing as a preventative warWar begets the conditions that beget further war President Eisenhower successfully got America through the roughest part of the Cold War years without any military conflict I choose to look at President Eisenhower not only because he is my favorite president but because he witnessed first-hand WWII Unlike their European counterparts Americans came out of World War II with a positive view of the preceding four years Government propaganda economic prosperity and Hollywoods glamorization gave Americans a very unreal and sheltered version of the harsh realities of war The period of World War II until today represents a war of morality and uncompromised unity Its often called the good war because it is viewed as a time where all Americans set aside their differences united for a common cause and fought for a moral battle against the greatest evil of all racial hatred Although this war was seen as the most just of all we have to ask ourselves does the end justify the means I have to say that I thought and thought about this and couldnt come up with an answer Hitler may have taken over the world if not stopped Hitler killed 15 million people in the Holocaust Cant we say that without a doubt WWII was a just war and one that had to be fought I tied President Eisenhower in
