Beowulf is an example of a magnificent warrior and a king It is the warrior spirit however that enables him to be a better king because he is fair he is protective and eloquentBeowulf while he is king he is fair he learns this by fighting Grendel He does not fight Grendel with weapons he fights Grendel with his bare hands The captain of evil discovered himself in a handgrip harder than anything he had ever encountered in any man on the face of the earth Heaney pg 51 line 750 This shows that Beowulf is fair this enables him to become a better king However there are more reasons that made him a preferable king Such as when he fights Grendels motherWhen Beowulf finds out Aeschere has died from Grendels mother he does not hesitate to go fight her Beowulf got ready donned his war-gear indifferent to death his mighty hand-forged fine-webbed mail would soon meet the menace underwater Heaney pg 101 line 1442 In this part of the book Beowulf shows that he cares about not only his people but others too This shows that Beowulf is protective of others Finally there is one more trait that makes Beowulf a better king and that is eloquenceThe final trait that enables Beowulf to become a better king is his eloquence The best quote in the story that depicts his eloquence is when he announces his name We are retainers from Hygelacs band Beowulf is my name If your lord and master the most renowned son of Halfdane will hear me out and graciously allow me to greet him in person I am ready and willing to report my errand Heaney pg 25 line 342 One could say Beowulf has a silver tongue because of his great choice of words After Beowulf says this Wulfgar takes him straight to Hrothgar Eloquence permits him to become a better kingBeowulf is a great warrior being
