In Mark Zusaks novel The Book Thief the main character Liesel Hemmeriage tries to survive through World War 2 while trying to learn how to read and write Throughout the book the author wants the reader to see that words are not just an idea or story but a power to control a persons mind or action and this saved Liesel in the endLiesel Meminger shows that literature can do much more then a bunch of words on paper but the power to help people for example reading helps relief stress or trouble dont worry Liesel Papa said Just keep reading 105Bad nightmares occurred during Liesels first few days at the Huberman household Hans read to her almost every night to get her nightmares away Hans Huberman sat sleepy-eyed on the bed and Liesel would cry into his arms and breathe him in 37 you could almost taste the cigarettes by smelling Hans body Words evolved through the ages unlocking lockstep with humankind Literature themselves are merely identified as certain objects ideas or actions but have advanced us and saved us Although its more rare for words to physically save people its still possible For example Liesel reading in the basement while the bombing happened there was only me 531Another is when Liesel stole the book from the bonfire Liesel rubbed her ribs she burnt her stomach with the book all hot and smoky eating her flesh away and the ashes flaking slowly into the air This shows the reader Liesels dedication towards her passion for books In Mark Zusaks book he really persuades the reader to see that words are helpful For example Liesel reads for comfort safety and enjoyment like any other person in the world However words are not the only thing he wants us to understand but other stuff like faith honesty and integrity
