Many people who experience suffering in their lives raise the following questionif only temporarily How could God permit such a thing to happen Can you give an example of thisA point often raised by religious skeptics is that if an omnipotent Being exists why would he allow suffering into the world Philosophers such as John Mackie have reasoned that if the concept of a Deity were to be true and He did indeed care about the wellbeing of the human race He would have forgone the creation of Earth in favor of a planet in which its inhabitants would be incapable of the atrocities committed by our species Fieser and Lillegard 47 Therefore a logical conclusion would be that there is no God at all or that He is either apathetic towards our misery or limited in His power However for this argument to be plausible it would mean that God under the assumption that He exists views mankind to be of the same value as animals when in fact most religions support the concept that Man is esteemed of high worth For example in Hinduism being reincarnated as a human shows progression whereas rebirth as an animal denotes regression in our journey towards reaching a unity with God Bhaskarananda In the Bible man is regarded as a little lower than the angels and has all in subjection under him Hebrews 27-8 If we are in fact of such infinite worth it does not follow that our suffering is without purpose and simply the result of an uncaringpowerless DeityIn the Book of Jeremiah the Lord explains Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee Jeremiah 15 and in Hebrews Paul refers to God as the Father of spirits Hebrews 129 From this scriptural evidence it can be concluded that the spirits of men existed with God before residing in physical bodies here on Earth This would entail that our mortal experiences
