The US is one of the fattest countries in the world Smith 2011 There is easy access to many kinds of food that are healthy or unhealthy Sitting on the computer or watching TV every night is the norm For a better well being being active with our friends and families is recommended For a long time that was the norm and exercise was inevitable but now it is seen as the perfect lifestyle and not easy to obtain People who exercise and stay active with hobbies lead longer and happier lives The causes of overweight and obesity can be linked to behavioral metabolic and genetic factors However ultimately weight gain occurs due to positive energy balance in which energy intake exceeds energy expenditure Jakicic and Otto 2006 Being lazy is the best reason for weight gain There are many other factors but food tastes good and running is difficult So we take in more than our bodies can release whether it be through exercise or pooping Becoming overweight or obese is a long-term effect Getting fat is not just about eating too many calories or not expending them There is a process that must occur in order for fat to accumulate Hahn 2009 Eating too much and being lazy does not instantly make fat There is a long chain of reactions in the body that make fat Understanding this process could be beneficial to leading a healthy life Fat accumulation is fundamentally determined by the hormone insulin and our insulin levels go up and down with the quantity and quality of carbohydrates we consume The more carbs we eat the more refined they are and the sweeter they are the more fructose in them in other words the more insulin we will ultimately secrete The higher our insulin levels the more fat we accumulate Hahn 2009Eating a lot in one day while just sitting at home doesnt make someone fat If these become habit
