The US teen birth rate is higher than any other developed countries including Canada and the United Kingdom Nearly one million teen girls get pregnant each year Although rates have dropped in the US the numbers are still too high OAH 2013 With televisions shows aimed at adolescents representing teenage pregnancy such as Teen Mom and 16 and pregnant glamorization of teen pregnancy has grown These shows promote pregnancy as something to be more supported than scrutinized When it comes to the topic of teenage pregnancy most of us will readily agree that it is a widely criticized social problem Whereas some are convinced that teenage pregnancy results from sex education at a young age I maintain that teenage pregnancy occurs with glamorized media representations of teenage pregnancy and limited sexual education Teen pregnancy is acceptable and glamorous Its popularity stems from media Teens are surrounded by promiscuity There is little room for escape from it Media makes sexual promiscuity socially acceptable The cool kids on television do it so it is acceptable for them to do it Media is a teenagers main source of sexual education The problem is television promotes promiscuous sex without realistic repercussions The glamorization of promiscuous sex leads too glamorization of being a teen mother A blog discussing the affect televised representations of teen pregnancy on adolescents Is TV Glamorizing Teen Pregnancy states Shows like Secret Life of the American Teenager and even Glee can make being a teenage mom look much more glamorous than the reality of most teenage parents Arzie 2010 This statement explains that today teen pregnancy is everywhere you look The characters that are pregnant have no worry and unreal representations of how hard it is too be a teen mom Although some shows like Teen Mom on MTV do show that young women have a hard time they leave out their growing fame Which makes it ok An article by the Miami times presented
