The Psychology of Harry Potter was a fascinating book that brought youinto the world of wizards and compared it to our muggle world Ichose this book because I am and always will be a huge Harry Potter fanThe Psychology of Harry Potter brought the reader into the wizardingworld and described the ways in which psychology comes into play in notjust our world but the world of Harry Potter as well The sections Ifound most interesting were Attachment Styles at Hogwarts What DoStudents Learn from Hogwarts Classes and Mental Illness in theWorld of Wizardry This examination of Harry Potter took the readerdeep into the mind and studies of the characters and the effects thattheir experiences as young wizards had on each of themThe chapter I found the most interesting was the chapter onAttachment Styles at Hogwarts I found this chapter the mostinteresting because I felt that I could relate to it It described threedifferent styles of psychological attachments and the ways that welearn and relate to others as children 75 The attachment theory isdescribed in the book it focuses on how the familial environmentduring ones formative years affects ones ability to begin and maintainnormal adult relationships 75 In this chapter they gave HermioneGranger Ron Weasley and Harry Potter each one of the three differentattachment styles The three being secure anxious and avoidant Allof the attachment styles follow the same standard the behaviorsself-esteem and trust of others established in someone as a young childwill follow that person for the rest of his or her life 77 Theychose Hermione to be a case of security Security attached children aremore often than not more socially gifted and more competent in socialsituations and they also have a high self-esteem and are likely totrust others The reason why the writes chose Hermione to be the exampleof a secure individual because when we are first introduced to HermioneGranger we see a girl who has a stable normal supportiverelationship with both her
