Family values have always been a major conversation piece in the United States and it is often a huge key point when comes to decision making by politicians and businesses The question is How does a single person perceive family values The answer to this question is that people often judge family values through two sides of the spectrum one side being how normal their own family behaves towards each other and the second side being how they believe others families behave People in society are heavily influence about family values based on what others tell them and most importantly what they view on television For instance the reason why television shows like The Cosby Show and The Brady Bunch became such huge hits in this country is because people are intrigued by other families life However these iconic family television shows were too perfect in comparison to the families in reality I was not until 1987 when Fox brought a dysfunctional family known as The Simpsons that television realistically mirrored every type of family in America Each member of the Simpsons family had different qualities and struggles which most real life families could relate to better than the families portrayed in the Cosby Show and the Brady Bunch A recent TV Guide Poll was given to the public asking them which television family would they like to belong to most chose the Simpsons Furthermore The Simpsons can be a great psychological analysis in the area of family power hierarchy and values starting from Grandpa Simpson and going all the way down to the kids Bart Lisa and MaggieIn any family people tend to expect there to be a clear hierarchy between each member The most influence of power is the grandparents because they have been in this world longer than the others The next to precede the grandparents down the hierarchy pyramid in many cases having matching power
