Fifty years ago my grandparents emigrated from Germany with less than 8 dollars in their pocket and a four year old daughter Clemens and Anna Bielefeld wanted to become citizens of this nation because they saw a better life here for their children Thats how 399 million people felt as they came into the United States in 2012 all of them wanting to become a citizen What citizenship means to natural born citizens and immigrants to the US wanting to become a citizen is vastly different The dictionary definition of citizenship is the character if an individual view as a member of society behavior in terms of the duties obligations and functions of a citizen Duties and obligations those to words stick out The duty to vote and to serve on a jury is just that a duty to most natural born Americans but to immigrants it is a privilege they would love to have Another right we have is to run for a political office a position most choose to not take That is the difference of what citizenship means to an immigrant and what it means to a natural born citizen Citizenship to many is one thing opportunityAs citizens of the United States of America people have an amazing right to have a say on whom they vote into office Yet most people who have the ability to vote chose not to Native born Americans cannot fully appreciate what it means to not have that right In countries such as Saudi Arabia their citizens are not allowed to vote for who is in office so they basically have no say in what happens in their country The right Americans have to vote is something that millions want to have and therefore for freedom to say who is in office makes millions wanting to become citizens For natural born citizens voting is something they could do if they choose
