Through many religious documents including the Arthashastra Therigatha Bhagavad-Gita Upanishads and the Laws of Manu Buddhism began to develop spread and influence many People including the Aryans Vedic Age Mauryan Dynasty Asoka Chandragupta Darius I Siddhartha Guatama and Alexander the Great also helped to influence the spread and creation of a strong Buddhist civilization Most important was Siddhartha Guatama Buddha himself Throughout his life his father took all possible care to keep him in a palace full of luxuries and comfort During a royal procession throughout the streets of his palaces he saw some dirty old men dancing outside the exit of the palace something he had never seen before He later snuck out of the palace to see the outside world that was still unknown to him He was shocked to see an old person a sick man and a funeral procession This incident left an indelible mark on the mind of the young prince and he began his journey to attain the truth of life After seeing some naked dirty natural men living a life just as wonderful as any nobleman does he decided to join them and become an ascetic He wandered from place to place with the other ascetics and did heavy penances He even went to the stage of putting his body to rigorous punishment Guatama attained Enlightenment while meditating under a Bodhi tree in a place called Bodhgaya and created Buddhism After experiencing life as an ascetic Siddhartha preached the Four Noble Truths that form the basis of Buddhism These truths say Life is full of suffering suffering is caused by desire and craving one can be free from this suffering by removing desire and craving the way to eliminate desire and to get free from the cycle of birth and death is by following the Eight-Fold Path These guidelines caused many to realize that this could create a better life for them therefore causing them to join the
