Introduction There is nothing more important in my opinion than what a coachs philosophy is for the conditioning and coaching of his players Both areas predominately emphasis the mental and the physical and can even touch upon the spiritual which is where I believe true talent and the ability to perform originates A coach that is able to touch the spiritual though the mental and physical and by the words that are used words which inspire and motivate is most assuredly and in the truest sense of the word a teacher and coach This philosophy is how I approach the following thoughts in the conditioning and coaching of my high school players Although be aware I may not place everything that I believe and would do and say perfectly on this paper there is a lot more depth to me J Conditioning First off my goal in conditioning high school athletes is to do so safely quickly and with the maximum amount of development in speed strength and power without over-training and keeping with the philosophy of specificity in training as well as making it enjoyable Pre-Season 1I would encourage participation in another sport or physical activity to keep the reflexes sharp 2Conditioning should begin at least 3 months prior to the season beginning 3Weight lifting is a must unless the other sport or activity incorporates muscle power and strength development aLifts should be quick with high intensity bFull body muscle development should be emphasized cAt least 3x per week with increasing intensity and weight and progressing until the season starts as well as incorporating rest days between lifting days for recovery 4Players should run sprints at least 3x per week increasing intensity number of times performed until the season begins 5A substitute instead for weight lifting would be to have players do body weight exercises andor my personal favorite dynamic tension exercises with the same
