My grandmother Valentine used to be a part of Russian Orthodox Religion My grandmother lived in Russia until she was about 14 Her life is very interesting to me because it shows me that faith and what you believe in can help you so much I say this because when Valentine was about 10 years old she also was forced into concentration camps She doesnt like to talk about it because its an emotional topic for her but all she kept mentioning was that her faith in God is what made her and her family survive At that time she was a practicing Orthodox Russian with her family and was very religious When she came to America it was a different lifestyle for her and it was hard for her to adjust to it At that time there were not many other people practicing Russian Orthodox My grandmother and her family were always strong about her faith When Valentine was about 20 she met my grandfather Joe who was a practicing catholic They decided to get married but in order to be married in a Catholic church she had to convert her religion to Catholic Her family was very understanding and there were no problems with the process of the conversion Being able to convert to another religion she said was hard because she didnt want to be punished or shunned by her family or she didnt want anything to happen between her and her husband but since Religion Orthodox is similar to Christianity it made things a lot easier since there are a lot of similar practices and beliefsBefore interviewing my Grandmother I thought it was important to learn more about the background and history of Russian Orthodox Russian Orthodox ROC was founded by the Apostle Andrew ROC is a part of Eastern Orthodox During the Great Schism there was a dispute between the Eastern and the Western Churchs and their beliefs in God
