Grandmas Famous BauelosOne of my favorite memories growing up as a kid would have to be Christmas Eve All my family would gather together at my house and everyone would pitch in with food The basic things to take to the gathering would be tamales posole frijoles etc What everybody was waiting on was for grandmas Famous Bauelos The tradition was that while everyone ate my grandma would be in the kitchen making her Bauelos I was a little kid and I would always try to finish eating as fast as I could so I could go see my grandma make them Abuelita I said She looked at me and nodded her head Whats your secret ingredient for your famous Bauelos She smiled and said Mija your to young to know I watched her do the dough it was the same as if she was going to make tortillas de harina After the dough was ready she would make them into little balls and rolled them out into a tortilla While she did that she would put me to put oil in a pan and let it boil When a couple of the little balls were rolled out she would put one tortilla at a time in the boiling pan till the tortilla turned brownish On the side she had brown sugar mixed with cinnamon ready to be sprinkled on the first BaueloAbout seventy Bauelos were made and everybody waited anxiously for them Abuelita She looked and me and said Mande mija I smiled and asked So are you going to tell me your secret ingredient now She laughed and said There is no secret ingredient I just make them with love
