Gender affects people in different ways and causes different views on life I was born a female and I was raised by two very different people My mother who is British and raised in a catholic boarding school always raised me to be very feminine She always told me to act and dress like a lady She taught me the right way to eat a meal and how to walk My father was the polar opposite He encouraged me to play sports and climb trees He didnt mind if I wanted to have a more masculine side He allowed for me to develop into who I was going to be Gender not only affected my family life my dreams and my sexuality but it also affected the way that I viewed societyI am the oldest child of 6 children I grew up with 2 of my brothers and sisters and I assisted in raising them There are large age gaps between my siblings and I There are 6 years of age difference between my brother and me 14 years between my sister and I and over 20 years of age difference between the other 3 siblings and I Since I was the oldest child in my family I took on the motherly sister role This motherly role affected no only my family life but my whole life When I attended elementary school I was always the teachers helper The teachers felt that I was the best student to help make sure that the class was ran effectively and I was smart enough not to fall behind in my work My teachers has a level of expectancy for me and even at a young age I was placed in competition with a boy in my class Michael Michael was supposed to be the smartest boy in the class and I was supposed to be the smartest girl The teachers were constantly placing us against each other
