Memo ToBA 190A Students FromTricia L Fulmer DateWednesday September 12 2001 SubjectMemo Example Criteria This illustration demonstrates standard memorandum format and specific criteria for BA 190 Please take note of the following features and use them when preparing memos for this class Remember memo assignments are due at the very beginning of class on the due date The standard heading of a memo consists of the captions To From Date and Subject You may see these headings arranged differently in other memos but the standard format should be followed for this class The subject line should be a brief statement that will help the reader identify the memos content When creating your memo left and right margins should be at least one inch wide The body of the memo is single-spaced with double spacing between paragraphs Related items may be grouped and marked with numbers or bullet points however for this class paragraphs should not be numbered Also for this class make sure to include you class time at the bottom of the assignment Additionally the memo sender frequently places their handwritten initials after the typewritten name to indicate approval of the message Do not use an opening line such as Dear Max or a closing line such as Sincerely or Yours Truly Be sure that the memo has good organizational structure The memo should include an introductory paragraph that highlights the major ideas at least three paragraphs for the body of the memo and a concluding paragraph that summarizes the major ideas Remember to follow the writing process of generating ideas defining main ideas relating organizing and revising Remember to have only ONE main idea per paragraph On the back of this page you will find an outline format that you may find helpful in structuring your memo For each memo you are to write for this class I will give you a listing of suggested paragraph topics
