For the first time tension ran through me like adrenaline Why should I feel unprepared Hard training miles and hours all seemedto vanish Should I have been more trained for this It was a mile into the race Closer and closer to thefinish where my level of training would determine my result A 9th of amile away If I wanted to really put all I had into it this would bethe time We only had an 8th of a mile to go I started to bite my lipsso that I would run faster 7 65 I finally saw the start of thevictory path awaiting for me Only a fourth of a mile 3rd Finally Isaw it approaching me rapidly the big gate with a big stopwatchstaring down at me I finally put all I had into it to beat the otherswho would pass me hurtling myself to the finish In my mind all Icould think of was the immense pain and against the will of my body Istarted to slow down my mind saying Imdone Igiveup Ilost Imdone I give up I lostmy lungs couldnt take it anymore All mystrength gave out Wait When I looked I saw people clapping and cheeringlike I won gold for our country and I bent over trying to catch mybreath I was only thinking about one thing How could I havepossibly finished Never will I forget my first race the first sound of thegun shot that will forever change the way I thought about struggle
