There can be such a thing as caring too much for someone especially when they are ill No matter what the situations is when someone tries to control the lives of those who are not well how can they expect them to get better if they dont really understand what the problem is This is the common theme between The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin Each of these stories deals with the suppression of two separate women Louise and Charlotte who must overcome their controlling husbands and begin their search for individual freedom We must first come to understand the situations each of the main characters are in Louise Mallard in A Story of an Hour suffers from a heart condition that has afflicted her Her husband tried to make sure that she was not exposed to anything that would affect her condition Knowing that Mrs Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husbands death 19 Louise was restrained in the house and only let out when properly supervised When news of her husbands possible death came the family and their doctor tried to break the news to her as gently as they could Little did they know that the death of her husband would be the beginning of her new life Charlotte in The Yellow Wallpaper must deal with the same type of situation but with a different set of obstacles Charlotte has even less freedom and a larger hunger for such freedom Her husband John keeps her under strict watch and doesnt let her do anything that would cause her harm She is confined in her room with the yellow wallpaper to keep her away from any excitement John keeps a daily schedule for her controlling every minute of her day I have a schedule prescription for
