"Your essay is off to a good start. With just a little bit of work put into the finer details of the paper, you will significantly improve it.

The first aspect of the paper to work on is the organization. It is excellent that you have an introduction that ends with a thesis statement and a conclusion, but some elaboration would be beneficial. To elaborate on your thesis statement, consider summarizing the things taken away from Emily and have the paragraphs in the body of your paper align accordingly. Next, think about not having the conclusion be a repetition of the introduction. Instead, use the conclusion as an opportunity to summarize the main points made in the body of the paper and relate them to the thesis statement. While it is clear that the purpose of your essay is to talk about things taken away from Emily, making these changes will increase the clarity and show the reader that you remain focused on that purpose throughout your writing.

You do a great job providing examples from the text to support the points you are trying to make. When you are writing, I advise that you remember that the reader of your essay may not have read the short story before. I encourage you to increase your use of adjectives and to write using specifics rather than vagueness. The first example that I came across where this approach would be helpful is when you write that Emily "is an example of a time that once was."
