In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck the theme is clearly stated to be loneliness The novel is showing us different aspects of how each character feels and how lonely they are Throughout the novel it shows us the loneliness of Curleys wife She never really has nobody to talk to or vent herself to Her husband is also never really there for her hes only caught up in his own life rather than considering her Curleys wifes biggest dream was to be famous and have a life of an actress but doesnt get any of it To deal with her loneliness she would go into the farm with the guys and want to communicate with them but they would think she was there for another reason Curleys wife is the main character who portrays loneliness and was noticed to be a victim by having the other characters tell us what they thought and how she was treated The men would never really talk to Curleys wife because she was the bosss son and they knew that no one should talk or get involved with her They believed that if they talked to her and something went wrong they could get into trouble like get fired Everyone on the farm referred to her as a tart and a tramp They also started feeling bad for her because her appearance and how she was I get lonely You can talk to people but I cant talk to nobody but Curley This is significant because it shows us how lonely she gets at times She was not allowed to talk to no one but Curley and Curley isnt really there for her like he should be in the first place Steinbeck also wrote about this in his novel to show us the power men had over their married women The women had to obey and listen to them as well Why cant I talk
