The play Macbeth by William Shakespeare is about the actions of a Scottish Lord Macbeth after he hears a prophecy from three witches This prophecy says that he will become King of Scotland This play shows how Macbeths violent actions in order to become and retain his position as King causes him and others around him harm throughout the play Macbeths speech in Act V Scene v lines 11-31 shows Macbeths lack of reaction towards the news of his wife Lady Macbeths death The speech shows how little humanity and empathy Macbeth has Macbeth is losing hope for his future because his ambition has left him without any allies and he knows that his death is quickly approachingMacbeth has lost hope and believes that he has no purpose in life Macbeths lack of hope is shown when he says that lifes but a walking shadow 27 Macbeth thinks that no one has the ability to actually accomplishes anything in life He believes that people are simply ghosts of themselves because their actions have no true meaning because they have no true impact on the future of society Actions and words hold little meaning in Macbeths mind because they last for only a brief candle 26 of time in the world His ambition has come to nothing for him because he sees that men have only their hour upon the stage and then they are heard no more 28-29 Macbeths words in this soliloquy show that he realizes that his death is coming and it is coming very soon Macbeth does not react to anything he feels hopeless Macbeth justifies his crimes by saying that life is full of sound and fury Signifying nothing 30-31 so his crimes also hold no meaning and therefore are not evil in the grand scheme of things Instead his crimes have no impact on the world so his actions were not wrong Just before the end
