Throughout time there has rarely been a case where a leader obtains power and someone else is not hurt in the process This can range from severe crimes to petty harm Power is a very addictive thing and everyaggressive leader throughout time has craved it In William Shakespeares Macbeth Macbeth and his wife must pay the price for obtaining their power in the following ways Macbeth has to kill others to reach a position in power Macbeth loses his close friends and allies trying to secure his power Lady Macbeth and Macbeth must suffer the grief from the terrible crimes they have committed trying to gain and secure power Thus there is always a price to pay for powerWhen Macbeth is ruled king and attempts to further secure his power he loses many close friends and many crucial allies An example of this is when Macbeth starts to get jealous and drifts away from Banquo To make them kings the seed of Banquo kings rather than me utterance Shakespeare III i LXX Once Macbeth becomes king and confirms that the prophecies from the witches are correct he starts to become jealous of Banquo because his sons will become king and Banquos bloodline will continue to be in power Macbeth however wishes to extend his bloodline creating conflict between the two causing Banquo to drift away Thus Macbeths thirst for power ruined his relationship with Banquo a hard sacrifice to secure Macbeths power Another extremely important relationship that Macbeth lost in his quest for power is his wife The queen my lord is dead She should have died hereafter Shakespeare V v X When his wife commits suicide from her grief and Seyton informs Macbeth of his wifes death Macbeth shrugs it off and goes about his business This signifies that Macbeth has gotten too caught up in his power and prophecies that
