Revenge It is a word that means different things to different people To some it is a word for justice whereas to others it may be a childish and silly act Today we are going to view revenge from the eyes of Alexandre Dumas the author of Count of Monte Cristo To seek revenge from someone who has betrayed makes you not much different from your enemy If revenge motivates a person it can take up their lifetime - their lifetime spent thinking about a person they supposedly hate Monte Cristo the main character in Dumass book spent a great deal of his time planning revenge against his foes after he escaped prison Haydee had been along with him all that time acting as a new beginning however Monte Cristo never saw this option available since he never set his mind off his mission The quote Perhaps your love will make me forget what I must forget stated by Monte Cristo shows that he is accepting towards a new beginning and he realizes Haydees devotion Monte Cristo had many signs trying to guide him on the right path but he ignored them He did not allow his mind to ponder on about the morality of his decision Abbe Faria a good and wise man told Monte Cristo it has instilled a new passion in your heart - that of vengeance Abbe had warned Monte Cristo even before Monte Cristo had escaped If Monte Cristo had heeded Abbe Faria many unintended deaths could have been prevented Revenge only gives a temporary feeling of satisfaction nothing more than thatRevenge makes a person feel superior while it lasts but sooner or later they would have to come to the realization that it was not worth the trouble Monte Cristo had the feeling that he was the most powerful being - I wish to be Providence myself for I feel that the most beautiful noblest most sublime
