How often do we see skinny teenagers on the street nowadays In how many newspapers magazines and articles we can read about eating disorders Daily how often we ask ourselves if we are skinny enough This composition will discuss Anorexia a very common eating disorder Anorexia nervosa a-neh-RECK-see ah is an eating disorder that mostly occurs about 59 in adolescence girls but it can also occur among teenage boys and adult men and women Usually anorexia begins between the ages of 14 to 18 when young teenagers go trough puberty People with Anorexia have an exaggerated fear of gaining weight they tend to avoid high-calorie and carbohydrate food and they often count calories People with this eating disorder also consume laxatives or diet pills constantly exercise move food around the plate wear oversized clothes to hide their appearance and worry about their nutrition all the time They also have a fear of eating in front of others sometimes they feel depressed have problems socializing and starve themselves even if they have a normal figure They also spend a lot of time in front of the mirror takes care for others food pay too much attention to their weight and accumulate food in unusual places A person with Anorexia usually weights below 15 of hisher normal body weight Their relation between height and weight is under 175 BMI Body Mass Index instead of the normal 20 to 25 Mamas health pg1 There are two types of Anorexia The first type is the Restrictive type in which a person keeps losing weight trough starvation different diets or by going overboard with exercising and physical activities This type of anorexia affects 25 of people who suffer from this disorder The second type of anorexia is the purgative or binge eatingpurging type which is when a person overeats and then use purifying methods like vomiting taking laxative diuretic or other pills This type of anorexia affects 75 of people
