In 2012 the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the employment of registered nurses is expected to grow 26 percent from 2010 to 2020 US Department of Labor 2013 The field of nursing is a rapidly growing career being one of the most in-demand jobs in the industry I choose to return to school is because I want to change careers from massage therapy to nursing What appeals to me about the field of nursing is nurses have many jobs to choose from they make a consistent income and the job is still within the healthcare field Even though massage therapy is a fulfilling career I am returning to school to study nursingThere are several different types of nursing jobs to choose from Nurses may specialize in a particular segment of the population such as pediatrics womens health or geriatrics while other jobs focus on a particular skill set such as surgery OBGYN or dermatology Choosing a location to work such as a school hospital walk-in clinic or nursing home are other options for nurses Many of these types of jobs require at least a Registered Nurse education Not only are there numerous fields in nursing the pay is consistentAs a licensed massage therapist my workload is inconsistent most of the time I work as an independent contractor at two hotel spas in a high tourism town in Hawaii If tourism is slow and there are no clients to massage I do not get paid Some days I will massage 4 clients while others I will only have 1 client Becoming a registered nurse will allow me to receive a more consistent schedule and income It will be nice to know exactly how much money I am making instead of hoping I make a certain amount In addition to consistency nursing will allow me to continue working in healthcareI thoroughly enjoy working in the healthcare field and massage therapy has allowed me to merely dabble
