Miguel de Cervantes once said Fear has many eyes and can see things underground This quote can relate to the women in Hamlet because the women in the play have a fear of losing something secretly underground Ophelia is scared of losing her innocent image to protect her father Gertrude has the fear of losing power and the title of being the Queen of Denmark I shall obey my lord is said by Ophelia when her father Polonius orders her not to get close to Hamlet anymore Ophelias character shows the reader a frail and obedient character Lines in the play does not contradict the fact that Ophelia was only acting scared Behind her fear were reasons for her to act the way she did A reason why Ophelia put on an act of being scared was for her father Polonius was her only parent figure in her life and knows that what he does and says is to protect her from the horrible world even though the way he says things to her may be harsh Ophelia being scared is a way of comfort for her father because it shows him that she is too scared to disobey and shows him that she will obey In the play Ophelia is thought to be very young nave and can also be seen to be loyal At home my lord III1142 Ophelia loves Hamlet but decides that she needs to be loyal to the one and only parent who raised her Throughout the play Ophelia is acting scared to protect her image of innocence and goodness for Polonius We learn that fear was a way Ophelia hid her true thoughts and knowledge to protect her image as well as protect her father secretlyWhen the King says the line With mirth in funeral and with dirge in marriage Shakespeare shows us that Hamlets fathers funeral was on the same day as the King
