Childhood FearsThe year 2000 the year of the Y2K bug the new millennium the turn of the century the year that filled people with fear Being only eight years old I had no fears I was invincible and nothing could stop me as far as I knew Until the day our childhood play and a simple game turned into a fright filled nightmare that would forever be imprinted in my memory something that was burned into me like a bad scarThe weather was unseasonably warm for a fall break from school the sun was out and all we needed were light sweatshirts to stay warm The weather was the kind that we could not sit inside we needed to soak up every last minute of the gorgeous breezy day I was at my babysitters house that I had been at for the past few years with some children I had become friends with We decided it would be a good idea to explore the woods like we had done so many times before The trees had shed most of their leaves so the gaps in the fence behind the playhouse beyond the trampoline were easily found and easily maneuvered as to dodge the protruding metal bars Weaving our way in and out of the trees over fallen logs and past ant hills we made it to the clearing in the woods and just stood and stared back at the task ahead of finding our way backLets head back its probably getting time to go soon Kylie suggested she really just did not like going through the woods she thought it was scary although we never had anything to fear in the past Not yet lets explore more The other four of us wanted to go explore more not wanting to head back alone Kylie continued with us We turned to start heading back to the backyard when Ashleigh urged us to go a different way
