Cheerleading is often misinterpreted by parents today and society as a whole Most people might not even call it a sport but a wimpy activity for the average girl In 3 Cheers for my cheers for my daughters the narrator is a mother learning about cheerleading and excepting her daughters choice of sport Cheerleading might be interpreted as being a sport degrading to young women Most cheerleaders are often known as being airheads blond and an easy catch for guys In this particular story the mothers attitude evolves from disliking cheerleading to a appreciating it greatly It describes how she learns through her daughter to appreciate cheerleading as a sport and a step forward for women The daughter comes home nervous and looking for approval for her upcoming decision to tryout for being a cheerleading The mother who knows how smart strong willed strong-armed critical and deep she was I screamed when my daughter told me at 16 that she was trying out to be a cheerleader the mother describes her feeling after hearing from her daughter The daughter makes the squad and eventually makes team captain The mother doubts that she is the type of person to yell in front of a large crowd at games The daughter still does her love of cheerleading without support of her mother which shows her strong personality More into the story the mothernarrator begins to follow the daughter a little bit closer The father goes to support their daughter but he tells the mother its only for the love of the game One game night the cheerleaders were performing and the daughter had fallen off The girls ran off in embarrassment and were heartbroken The mother trying to encourage her daughter quoted The girls were athletes I pointed out to her one night just as much as the basketball players were This proved that the mother became a little more supportive toward her daughters choice
