There are many great American writers but when I think of great American writers one writer comes to mind first Ralph Waldo Emerson is thewriter who comes to mind first when I think of this topic his name comes to mind due to all of his great achievements He led the Transcendentalist movement and was a great American essayist poet and lecturer Ralph Waldo Emerson was influenced by many things including many events which happened in his life his family his role in the Transcendentalist movement and EuropeThere are times indeed when one is inclined to regard Emersons whole work as a hymn to intelligence a paeon to the all-creating all-disturbing power of thought Dewey Even though he is mainly seen as a philosopher and essayist the response he gave to everything is that of an all-pervading soul and that of an artist Oddly enough even though he only wrote a few poems he considered all his work to be poetry PayneOne of the main things that influenced Ralph Waldo Emerson is the many events that happened in his life All the events that Emerson went through in his life provide us with a great context for the way of his thinking and the reason for his beliefs Ralph Waldo Emerson was born in Boston on May 25th 1803 to a family of merchants and ministers His father died on May 12th 1811 right before he was going to turn the age of eight Emerson attended the Boston Latin School from 1812 till 1817 and from there he went on to attend Harvard College from 1817 till 1821 In the year of 1829 Ralph Waldo Emerson was ordained a pastor and was married to Ellen Tucker Unfortunately in 1831 Ellen Tucker died and in 1832 he then resigned from pastor and went on to England Miles Ralph Waldo Emerson may have been poor as a boy but the kind of poverty he had mattered little
