Sierra Leone a small African country located on the western coast is home to thousands of people who have faced the unnerving and brutally disturbing sight of war Especially children The civil war in Sierra Leone began in 1991 when the Revolutionary United Front RUF tried to overthrow the Joseph Momohgovernment This war led to both sides the government and the RUF abducting children into their army forcing them to fight against their will This war lasted over 11 years and caused over 50000 fatalities In Uganda the Lords Resistance Army LRA founded by Joseph Kony is another military movement that focuses on overthrowing their current leader However the LRA is a religious war and they also recruit young children to their army to fight against their will for causes they may not even believe in Sierra Leone and Uganda are similar in the sense that their governments and rebel forces are abducting children to fight in their army against their will In both Sierra Leone and Uganda a big problem facing their citizens was the issue of child soldiering In an article written by Luke Falkenburg roughly 40 are in African countries to sustain ongoing conflicts In Uganda 5106 of the about 10000 children have been abducted by the LRA and are still unaccounted for to this day This proves extremely scary because even thought the children are being slowly freed and helped many mothers and fathers will never see their children again because they have been abducted into the LRA or the Government and have to fight against their will for things they may and may not believe in In Sierra Leone an estimated 10000 child soldiers were recruited in the war This is similar to Uganda because both countries have an estimated 10000 recruited child soldiers and these soldiers are all children Also in Sierra Leone those children who are forced into the RUF are most likely done
