How do people of today portray truth in our culture How significant is truth in the novel 1984 How do people decide between truth and lies What steps should people take to guarantee they are getting the truth The people in 1984 and people of todays society have many similarities and difference not only in one category but several For example they have similarities and differences in the importance of truth how they decide what truth is and the mistakes they make that causes them to believe truth Fortunately there are a few short steps that people can take to guarantee that they receive the whole truth Humans are not the only species to practice purposeful deceptive behavior but with our intelligence and language abilities we are the only species to have made it a fine art Persaud 3 In a survey nearly all participants said it was OK to lie if it meant doing the right thing Also 3 out of 5 people said it was OK to lie about issues such as joining a club their parents felt was a useless or dating someone parents didnt approve of Mehta 19-20 Most kids truly believe lying is wrong but typically tend to do it anyways sometimes without even thinking about it Mehta 2 Similar to adults kids commonly lie to avoid getting into trouble or doing something theyre not supposed to do or for not doing something they were suppose to do for example doings chores or homework Mehta 5 Another reason people tend to lie is to not hurt the feelings of others Mehta 10 All parents lie to their kids even if its as simple as there arent any Oreos left in order to stop them from hounding you Scher 1 In order to keep the childrens trust parents should never make lying an everyday thing because soon the children will catch on and lose trust
