Leona RossiOctober 3 2000 Understanding Motion 1 Position and Time 1 Problem Statement The goal of this lab was to show the relationship between the motion of an object one of the lab students and a graph of position and time for the moving object During the lab exercise we would discover that relationship by comparing our movement to a graph previously set up for us 2 Procedure We my lab group set up our lab using the computer and motion sensor We followed the directions as one after another person moved in straight line away from the motion sensor at different speeds We also tried to manipulate the graph by changing our position and distance from the motion sensor such as moving in a straight line and then left or right We were unable to manipulate the graphing done by Data Studio and soon resorted to going in a straight line as originally planed We soon were able to produce a graph of our movement very similar to the graph example When this was done we concluded that we had followed the procedure and set up our graph as was directed 3 Diagram of our Lab 4 Data See Graph 5 Calculations See Graph for any equations involving this lab 6 Sources of Error One unavoidable source of error involved walking away from the motion sensor when recording To get a good reading off the motion sensor we used a board to reflect the pulses of ultrasound The one unavoidable source of error was that the person walking away from the motion sensor would shake a little bit because the person was moving and walking backwards so there was no sure footing Also peoples hands can shake and not be controlled voluntarily
