Texas AM Topic B Describe a circumstance obstacle or conflict in your life and the skills and resources you used to resolve it Did it change you If so howNearly six years ago I was faced with the ugly truth behind world poverty During a summer visit to my relatives in Pakistan my dad took me to visit a village in southern Pakistan just outside of Karachi I saw numerous children without proper clothing shelter and even food There were young kids running around without shoes wearing filthy clothes These were some of the skinniest children I had ever seen and when I say skinny I mean unhealthily skinny The parents of these children could not afford to feed them let alone send them to school After seeing the living conditions of these poor children I was determined to help the cause Even though these circumstances may not be ideal there is always hope While I was there an organization called the Human Development Foundation commonly referred to as HDF was working to build a school in the region for the underprivileged The Human Development Foundation based in the United States works to help relieve poverty and promote education in the rural areas of Pakistan HDF holds annual fundraisers for their new and upcoming projects in Pakistan After witnessing world poverty firsthand I decided to become an active member of HDF Since then I have served as an event management assistant at all of their fundraisers setting up speakers organizing event security ticketing and facilitating donations It has been an honor working with HDF for the past few years as it gives me the satisfaction of working for others especially those linked to my roots This experience has definitely changed me as I have now become more cognizant of social causes all around the world Not only did this experience spark me to join a humanitarian organization in HDF but it also led me to
