Many people have developed a popular assumption that dairy products and milk are rich in calcium as well as vitamin D Unfortunately due to several people having this flawed belief that this calcium-rich drink is essential to support good overall health and bone health many individuals suffer from adverse side effects Many scientific studies have shown avariety of adverse health effects due to consumption of commercialized dairy products Mainstream media somehow masks these shocking statistics One can assume that todays dairy products are technically processed food It cannot be forgotten that cows milk is essentially produced to supply the nutrients of a newborn calf and perhaps not originally intended for human consumptionUnlike humans once calves are weaned they never drink milk again therefore it is not unfathomable that humans may consume calcium deriving from vegetables Unlike the vast majority of milk consumed unpasteurized raw milk actually contains the nutrients that are claimed to be in commonly consumed milk Milk should not be the primary source for calcium in the human dietThe dairy industry has spent billions of dollars advocating that milk and other dairy products are abundant sources of calcium Is this widespread assumption accurate There are several common vegetables that contain similar amounts if not more calcium than in dairy products If vegetables were consumed as often as dairy products for the purpose of absorbing calcium people would generally be healthier Pasteurization is the process of heating up the milk to prevent bacteria growth as well ascreate a safe environment to produce milk Due to pasteurization the nutrients for example calcium in milk are no longer able to be absorbed Pasteurization also destroys the essential enzymes necessary to absorb calcium and vitamin DCommercial dairy products are pasteurized therefore contain less nutrients than is commonly portrayed Pasteurization makes the consumption of milk safer merely because of the lack of bacteria As quoted in The Vegetarian Times Ron Schmid ND author of the forthcoming The Untold
