Abstract This paper is about the Stanford prison experiment If it was ethical or not considering the things that were done to these male college students This paper focuses on background information on the Stanford Prison experiment It also covers my options on if it was ethical and it was compared to the Stanley Mailgrams Obedience experiment After reading about the Stanford prison experiment I was amazed that people would even want to become a part of this study It sounded harsh to live in those standards for two weeks straight The experiment took place in 1970 at Stanford University There was one psychologist who conducted this study was Philip Zimbardo and three assistances Craig Haney Curtis Banks and Dave Jaffe The main idea was to create a stimulated prison with random college students The roles they students had to play were prisoners and guards They wanted to test that the environment around a person or situation can determine how you behave and also act He wanted to see what happened to regular people who were placed in prisonHe did a random assignment because he wanted to measure different reactions behaviors and emotional measures of moods attitude towards ones self coping and adaptation to the situationRoger R hock 2013 20092 005 In order for Zimbardo to make a very good replica of a prison he had help from an ex-convict that was in jail for 17 years He used the basement of psychology building at Stanford University The rooms and halls were converted into a prison He put up bar to make it look realistic He also had an area for prisoners when they misbehaved it was located at the end of the hall in a
