Personal Learning Characteristics Throughout my school years I have learned how important it is to realize my own learning style and personality It has helped me to focus on how I learn best and am more likely to be successful I have always done well in school and been successful except I know that I am someone who does not easily understand information when it is first presented It takes me awhile to absorb information and be able to apply it This meant that I was always studying and reviewing In order for me to fully grasp and learn something I need a combination of auditory visual and hands-on instruction My freshman year of college I took a learning personality test and was not surprised when the scores were just about even for all three learning styles These results proved that I do not prefer one approach to another And in my education I know that I have found it important to read about a subject see models of it and somehow experience it in order to fully get it In my classroom I will stimulate all aspects of learning for my students I know that just lecturing to students will not help most of them learn the material Some students grasp information best by reading while others learn better through listening or discovering concepts in a hands-on fashion The way that you prefer to learn is a major contributor to your personality When studying or reading I prefer to be comfortable and for me sitting in a desk is not a position in which I can relax and concentrate on my work At home I like to lie on my bed or sit on a couch Sitting upright only makes me feel uncomfortable and I get easily distracted In the classroom I think it is important to allow students to move around when they work and read By moving from their desk
