Exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28th 1919 This treaty put an end to World War I At the time of the signing a thirty-one year old German named Adolf Hitler was in the gloom of defeat Adolf Hitler was a gefreiter or lance corporal in the German army He served the German army from 1914 to 1918 He earned three awards the Iron Cross First Class Iron Cross Second Class and the Wound Badge The Treaty of Versailles put many restrictions on Germany These restrictions were put in place as reparations which are compensations in money land or materials payable by a defeated nation These reparations caused poverty and major economic depression throughout the Germany With Germany in such a weak state Hitler came to power easily by promising wealth and glory for the the fatherland The Treaty of Versailles caused the World War II because of reparations against Germanys land people and army In the Treaty there were fifteen articles declaring the terms to end the war The first article decreed Part I created the Covenant of the New League of Nations which Germany was not allowed to join until 1926Crowley The League of Nations had good intentions but the way it was set up did not work The League had it so if one country wanted to go to war against another the allies of said countries would stop them from fighting But with so many allies in play once two countries started a conflict all of the allied countries would be forced to choose sides This is what occurred at the beginning of WWII If Hitler wouldnt have started the war somebody would have eventually started the second World War The second article dealt with the reduction of Germanys borders The border terms are very strict Part II specified Germanys
