I moved to the US with my mother without any prior knowledge of American culture when I was in the ninth grade My first language is Chinese and I had much difficulties acclimating to my new environment at first I didnt have any friends in school and felt like an outsider in a school that was mostly white Some students ridiculed my English and classes were intimidating However once the initial culture shock wore off I caught on very fast I started to volunteer for answers in class I attended many school activities and made many friends My father joined us in LA after three years My parents had some problems adjusting as well not having steady career jobs Wanting to help my parents with their finances I started to work as a telemarketer at 011NOS Communications at age 17 youngest ever to work for the company as telemarketer I worked 35 hours a week mostly after-school Three month after my first day working there I was promoted to customer service representative It was tough commuting to downtown LA after school every day to work until 9 pm and come home to work on the homework But the experience has taught me so much more than how to sell over the phone I gained appreciation for family hard work and the preparation for success I worked as a customer representative for almost a year until I graduated After graduating from high school I have been attending Pasadena City College Again I had to work while attending school I became a loan processor at the Cathay Bank at age 18 youngest ever at the bank I had to get through several interviews to get the job and my supervisors at the bank told me that they believed in me and complemented me in my quick-thinking professional attitude and maturity As the First Vice President of Real Estate Loan Department Jack Tweedy said We trust
