What The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind taught me about the learning process was it was much more than knowledge it was something of invention and imagination Although William Kamkwamba did not know if his windmill would work did not have the proper tools and did not have the proper materials he continued to build the windmill and ended up succeeding When I made this connection I realized what a vital role discovering things or failing helped facilitate attained knowledge When Kamkwamba in the book set out to make his invention come to life the windmill he began being fascinated with the fact that he was able to apply what he had learned about using kinetic energy in a radio to Kamkwamba deciding getting the improvised materials necessary to make his creation reality Carefully studying the book I realized that going into college I should be compelled to keep my interest in my studies and always have an appetite for academics to see what discoveries that I might come up with My studies at Loyola might lead me in ways that I may not have expected by learning not only though the classroom or through lectures but by learning from a real world experience and learning how to apply what I know to the outside world When I was in high school I would always feel as though I was shortchanged in a way I felt as though I was getting the education I needed but something was missing Then one day I knew suddenly what it was My teachers werent giving me real world experience of what I was learning I was getting the material and getting good grades But I felt as though they were cheating me in a way Although they got through their lesson it was almost like I didnt know how to use the information For example I know how to do a derivative but dont know what it was
